The Greatest Sermon ... Ever

I was attending a revival service at the Lincoln Christian Church a number of year's back. The preacher was a professor at Lincoln Christian College - in fact, he was my third-year Greek professor. This man was a very engaging and Biblical preacher, and I loved listening to him.

That's why, when he announced at the conclusion of one evening: "Tomorrow night, I'm going to preach the greatest sermon ever preached!," my curiosity was aroused. The greatest sermon ever? Wow! I had to hear that!

The next night, I watched as this brilliant man stood up, not one note in hand, and began to quote word-for-word Matthew 5, 6, and 7. That's right...the Sermon on the Mount. Ah yes, now I get it - the greatest sermon ever preached, by the greatest preacher ever, delivered by one of his faithful servants 2000 years later.

So, CCC family, we're going to take a close look at that very same sermon this summer. I can't promise that I'll quote it word-for-word! But what I can promise is that we'll unpack a bunch of truths for living that are just as relevant today as in the days which Jesus first spoke them.

I was captivated by Jesus' Sermon when we read through it during the New Testament Challenge earlier this year. I decided then that I would delve into it deeper at some time in the future. Well, that time is here!

I'm excited to see what we learn from the "greatest sermon." I hope you'll attend every Sunday that you're in town, either at 9:00 or 10:30 AM, and let Jesus' words speak to you anew.

Fantastic Sermon Series

I'm loving this sermon series. Of course, how can you go wrong with such a perfect sermon by our Lord and Savior to teach from!

You know, another great sermon is Peter's in Acts 2:14-21, which was surely given to Peter by none other than the Holy Spirit. Now, wouldn't that make a nice sequel?

What an awesome God we have!
