It's All About Love

Most people who know me know that I love music. Sometimes, I even lose focus while playing bass guitar because I’m caught up in the music and try to sing along (I keep my headset mic OFF!).

I’ve got all kinds of favorites in the worship music category, but one of my top songs is “All About Love.” I first heard that song in 2002, performed by the musician who composed it: Rick Muchow, the praise band leader at Saddleback Church. It captivated me then, and I still love it.

Part of verse one is simple, but powerful:

Love the Lord with all your heart
Love your neighbor as yourself
These are things that you must do
And my grace will see you through.

Those words actually provide the direction for our Fall 2009 focus at CCC. We’re going to concentrate on what many have called the “Great Commandment” – love God, and love others. That’s it! Jesus said that those two commands actually summarize EVERYTHING written in the Law and Prophets. That’s huge! I can’t think of a better topic to highlight in the next few months.

Here’s how we’ll go deep into the subject of loving God and loving others:

• I’ll preach a series of sermons based on the greatest commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) as well as the greatest chapter on love in all the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13
• We’ll offer a series of daily devotionals that you can do beginning Monday, September 21
• We’ll also have small groups meeting to use the “40 Days of Love” study taught by Rick Warren

I’m looking forward to seeing our love for God and others grow and mature this fall!
