Harvest of Talents
International Disaster Emergency Service
to give the missionary opportunity
to teach about the Living Water.
to open hearts to the Bread of Life.
as blankets and medicines
are given in the name of Jesus.
to provide shelter for families,
and they experience the warmth
of being part of the family of God.
not just with words,
but with deeds and in truth.
Among independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, the work of IDES is unique -- the one source our churches and missionaries consistently turn to for help.
Chillicothe Christian Church supports IDES hunger projects through the following activities that are coordinated by the Harvest of Talents committee:
- Harvest Market - a cart in the foyer of the church that has an ever-changing variety of items for sale that were made and/or donated by our members.
- Son Fish Banks - blue, fish-shaped banks to take home and fill with loose change. Bring it back when it's full and pick up another one!
- Quarter Sundays - held during worship on the last Sunday of each quarter (March, June, September, December). Bring in your Son Fish bank, or donate your quarters. One quarter feeds someone in another country a nourishing meal.
- Harvest of Talents sale on Big Day weekend (Fall) to support IDES.
- Valentine's Dinner with white elephant sale.
- Mother, Daughters, and Friends tea and craft party.
- Vacation Bible School offerings
- Harvest of Talents Cookbook - yummy recipes from the ladies of our congregation. Periodic updates are published to add to your three-ring binder cookbook.
Watch our display in the foyer for a list of current events!
In addition, Chillicothe Christian Church serves our local hungry by collecting canned goods and other food items to donate to our local food pantry. Please consider a monthly donation!
WHY YOU SHOULD GET INVOLVED
Then the King [Jesus] will speak to those on his right. He will say, "My Father has blessed you. Come and take what is yours. It is the kingdom prepared for you since the world was created. I was hungry. And you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty. And you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger. And you invited me in. I needed clothes. And you gave them to me. I was sick. And you took care of me. I was in prison. And you came to visit me."
Then the people who have done what is right will answer him. "Lord," they will ask, "when did we see you hungry and feed you? When did we see you thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you as a stranger and invite you in? When did we see you needing clothes and give them to you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?"
The King will reply, "What I'm about to tell you is true. Anything you did for one of the least important of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25: 34-40
